Nature Color Wheel

The nature color wheel that goes along with June’s box, Hiking Day, by Anne Rockwell, is just a fun and easy way to get outside with your child.

Once the initial color wheel is complete, you and your child can use it repeatedly on nature walks, scavenger hunts, or while hiking. This color wheel can even be used for some fun in your own backyard!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Construction and/or cardstock in the colors: brown, yellow, dark green, light green, light blue, dark blue, and purple (natural colors that you can find outside)

  2. Paper plate

  3. Scissors

  4. Glue

  5. 8 clothespins

Here’s What you’ll do:

  1. Cut the colored construction and/or cardstock into rounded triangles, the length of your paper plate. You need one traingle per color.

  2. Take the paper plate and lay it on a flat surface.

  3. Start with the brown piece of paper, put glue on the back, then place it onto the paper plate, matching the rimmed edge curve. Do not try to force the paper into the indent of the paper plate. Let it naturally fit without purposely creasing the colored paper.

  4. Then add each colored piece, repeating the above step but slightly overlapping each piece of paper.

  5. *Allow to dry for one hour. it is okay to have a small white circle in the center of the plate.

  6. Go outside to start searching for matching objects for each color.

  7. Use the clothespins to attach each object to the color wheel.

There you have it! Your very own nature color wheel. I hope you and your child enjoy your new nature color wheel and spend many hours exploring outside!
